SUMMARY: Kevin Tadema struggled with addiction, homelessness, and jail for over 20 years, losing his parents and custody of his children. Instead of incarceration, Newport Richey police connected him to treatment. A pivotal part of his recovery was finding a job, which he obtained from Nicholas Spurbeck, the manager at Take 5, who hired Kevin despite his lack of experience. Spurbeck has employed over 10 individuals with similar backgrounds, providing them with stability. Both men aim to give back to the community, emphasizing that recovery is possible with the right support and resources.

For more than 20 years, Kevin Tidema was lost in a cycle of addiction. But last year, he said, instead of putting him in jail again, the New Port Richey police helped him get treatment.

While Trump vows to begin deportations on day one, Florida’s state leaders, including House Speaker Daniel Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton, have stated that immigration policy is a federal issue, not within the state’s purview. Florida Democrats, like Rep. Marie Woodson, express concerns about the plan’s potential for racial profiling and economic disruption. With over 1 million undocumented residents in Florida, the deportations could hurt the state’s workforce, particularly in hospitality and construction, affecting local economies.

Donald Trump says his mass deportation plan is coming on his first day as president. It could have huge impacts on Florida’s hospitality, construction, and agriculture sectors.
