November 1,2024: Flood and tornado risk moves in this weekend
SUMMARY: A flood watch is in effect for Oklahoma City, Stillwater, Tulsa, and southwestern Oklahoma due to expected heavy rain from an approaching storm system this weekend into early next week. While there will be dry hours, there is a low tornado risk, rated at level two on a 1 to 10 scale, especially for Oklahoma City, Chickasha, Hobart, and Hollis. A slight risk for severe weather is anticipated in central and western Oklahoma over the weekend, with the storm threat continuing into Monday as the system moves out of the region. Be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Election officials: No imminent threat to any elections in Oklahoma
SUMMARY: US intelligence agencies have issued warnings about potential threats as election day approaches, prompting Oklahoma officials to assure the public that security measures are in place, though specifics remain confidential. Some counties are increasing police presence and additional state troopers will be visible at polling places. Voters are reminded to maintain respect for others during the voting process, especially following a recent incident in Texas where a voter was arrested for assaulting a poll worker. Officials emphasize that threatening election workers or intimidating voters is a crime in Oklahoma. Early voting begins tomorrow.

Preliminary report lists what might have caused Rush Fire at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge
SUMMARY: The brush fire at the Wichita Mountains, which started last week, has burned nearly 12,500 acres and is currently over 75% contained, though it is still active with minimal flames. Officials believe a heavy piece of machinery used for vegetation reduction may have sparked the fire. Over 200 firefighters remain on-site to combat the blaze and monitor hotspots. Sky 5 pilot Chase Rutledge was the first to aerially survey the area last Friday. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further spread.

Two charged in 2012 Pittsburg Co. homicide investigation
SUMMARY: Two suspects, Marais Ballard and Billy Thomas, were arrested last week in connection with the murder of Barbara Durrant, a case that dates back to her suspicious disappearance in September 2012. Durrant, 54, was missing for months before her remains were discovered in Wilburton, Oklahoma, in 2020. The medical examiner determined she died from a gunshot wound.
