Inspections, conducted under new HUD standards, identified issues such as clogged drains and missing smoke detectors. The housing authority acknowledged that the score is below acceptable levels but noted that standards for deficiencies have changed, impacting their rating. They are actively pursuing financial avenues to fund renovations. In contrast, other larger properties within the authority, such as the Senior Center and McGuire Plaza, received higher scores of 93 out of 100.

SUMMARY: Oklahoma Human Services is raising alarms over increasing SNAP benefit thefts, a problem that’s escalated since 2022. Nine skimming devices were recently discovered in local convenience and grocery stores, allowing criminals to capture card data and PINs to clone SNAP cards. As a result, fraud cases have surged, with nearly 10,000 requests for replacement this month alone, leading to delays in reimbursements. SNAP recipients are advised to change their PINs and utilize an EBT app for security. To combat this issue, Oklahoma plans to introduce chip cards by next summer, enhancing security against card skimming.
