Former Letcher Co. sheriff pleads not guilty to new murder charge

www.youtube.com – FOX 56 News – 2024-11-25 17:37:54

SUMMARY: Former Lee County Sheriff Mickey Stein faced a packed courtroom for his arraignment on a new murder charge related to the shooting of District Judge Kevin Mullins. Stein pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond, as he is charged with a capital crime under Kentucky law. Retired Judge Julia Adams presided over the arraignment, following Marcy’s Law guidelines. While Stein’s defense plans to request a bond hearing, securing bond for such charges is deemed unlikely. A new judge will be assigned for future proceedings. The prosecutor did not disclose motives, but both sides aim for the trial to occur in Lee County.

The former Letcher County sheriff accused of killing a district judge in his chambers in September appeared in front of a packed courtroom on Monday, the same building in which the alleged murder took place.
