SUMMARY: With just 4 days until election day, early voting in North Carolina ends tomorrow. Approximately 46% of registered voters, totaling over 3.6 million, have cast ballots so far, showing a decline from 2020’s turnout. Republican voters lead in early voting, closely followed by Democrats and unaffiliated voters. To vote early, individuals must be in line by 3 PM tomorrow. Absentee ballots are due by 7:30 PM on election day. Presidential candidates are actively campaigning in North Carolina, with Donald Trump and Vice President Harris making stops to rally support on critical issues before the election.

In the crucial last days, both presidential campaigns are blitzing through swing states, including here in North Carolina.

SUMMARY: A recent poll indicates that nearly half of respondents believe Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s issues did not affect their voting choices. Robinson lost the gubernatorial race to Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein, with his campaign suffering from a CNN report linking him to a past porn chat room. Despite this, 50.1% of voters now feel America is on the right track, an increase from previous months. Stein holds a 53.2% approval rating, and other elections resulted in a split of statewide positions between Democrats and Republicans. The poll included 615 responses with a margin of error of +/- 3.94%.

SUMMARY: The North Carolina General Assembly has passed legislation providing $227 million in fiscal recovery aid for Hurricane Helene, totaling $1.1 billion in assistance for various disaster relief efforts. The bill also includes significant changes to authority for state leaders, such as placing the State Board of Elections under the State Auditor’s office and restricting the attorney general’s ability to challenge the General Assembly. Critics, predominantly Democrats, argue these modifications serve Republican interests and compromise election integrity. The legislation reflects ongoing political tensions, exacerbated by recent court challenges and contentious executive actions during COVID-19.

SUMMARY: Laura Hogshead is no longer leading the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency, with Pryor Gibson now serving as interim leader. In a recent legislative hearing, they revealed a potential budget deficit of $265 million and noted that only 2,800 out of 4,200 family recovery projects have been completed since Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. The agency also owes $37 million for finished projects. Gibson requested trust from lawmakers as relief funds are distributed, and the request for Hurricane Helene assistance has grown significantly, with an $80 million lifeline provided so far.
