Officials warn of scammers after hurricanes
SUMMARY: Officials are warning the public to remain vigilant against scammers exploiting Hurricane Milton’s aftermath. Despite three weeks passing since the hurricane, experts emphasize the importance of being cautious as scammers attempt to steal money and personal information. Residents should be wary of unlicensed contractors, fake FEMA representatives, and fraudulent charity solicitations. Verify any documentation and never pay upfront for services. Be cautious of online scams, including phishing links designed to steal personal data. As the holiday season approaches, research charities thoroughly before donating. Report any scam incidents to local authorities and the Federal Trade Commission.

Tracking the Tropics | Rafael expected to develop in next 24 hours
SUMMARY: In this tropical weather update, meteorologist Greg D discusses potential Tropical Cyclone 18, expected to become Hurricane Raphael later today or by early Tuesday. The storm is projected to pass near Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and western Cuba, likely reaching category 1 status before entering the Gulf of Mexico. The storm’s track will determine the impact on Florida’s west coast, with minimal effects if it follows the western cone. However, if it shifts east, rain is expected Tuesday night through Thursday. Raphael may weaken to a tropical storm as it approaches the Gulf Coast due to adverse conditions. Another area of low pressure also shows potential for development.
ABC Action News tracks tropical developments in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.

Florida congressman files bills to strengthen election integrity related to border crisis | National
SUMMARY: Republican lawmakers, led by U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, have proposed two bills aimed at enhancing election integrity amid concerns over illegal voting. The โJAIL for Alien Voters Actโ seeks to impose stricter penalties, including five years in prison or a $10,000 fine for noncitizens who vote, aligning their consequences with those for U.S. citizens. Gaetz also introduced the โNational Motor Voter Clarification Act,โ aimed at empowering states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls without federal intervention. This follows legal disputes in Virginia about voter registration and parallels ongoing debates on immigration and election integrity amid a surge in border crossings under the Biden administration.

Community steps in to help Florida mom of 14 kids with home repairs
SUMMARY: When Andrea Hurt, a mother of 14 children, sought community help for home repairs after recent storms, the response was overwhelming. Most of her children are foster kids, with 11 either adopted or in the process of adoption. Earlier this year, she raised funds for a new air conditioning system through Angel Link. Following the hurricanes, her roof began leaking, causing significant damage, including falling ceilings and flooded classrooms. A handyman and John Starri from Steadfast Roofing stepped in to assist with repairs at no cost. Hurt expressed gratitude for the community’s generous support in helping her family.
To say Andrea Hurt has a full house is an understatement.
