Teacher vacancies reported in Kentucky as of start of September
SUMMARY: Educators in Kentucky are concerned about a troubling statistic: only one school district, Science Hill Independent in Pulaski County, is fully staffed. As of September 1, Kentucky had nearly 900 open teaching positions, with the most significant shortages in elementary education, special subjects like music and PE, and middle school math and science. According to the Department of Education, approximately 133% of teaching positions remained unfilled throughout the last school year. This staffing crisis highlights ongoing challenges facing the state‘s educational system.
State data shows that 13% of vacant positions remained open last year and there are currently 899 vacant positions.
