SUMMARY: The District 2 commissioner’s position on Louisiana’s Public Service Commission is open for election on Nov. 5, with three candidates vying for the role: two Republicans, Jean-Paul Coussan and Julie Quinn, and one Democrat, Nick Laborde. Outgoing Commissioner Dr. Craig Greene chose not to seek reelection, prompting this contest. The commission regulates utilities and holds significant influence, especially as Greene was a moderate swing voter. Laborde aims to hold utility companies accountable and diversify power generation. Coussan, the frontrunner, has strong campaign finances, while Quinn prioritizes consumer rates and energy independence. This election could shift the commission’s future direction.

SUMMARY: Meteorologist Mia Montgomery reports a cool Thursday in San Antonio, with morning temperatures in the upper 30s and a light freeze in the Hill Country, marking the coldest morning since February. Sunny, dry conditions helped afternoon highs reach the low 70s. Temperatures will dip into the upper 50s by 8 p.m. and low to mid-50s by late evening. The coming days will remain chilly, with highs rebounding into the mid to upper 70s. A potential cold front may impact the area around Thanksgiving, but no rain is expected, and severe drought conditions persist.

After the coldest morning since February, low humidity, sunshine, and calm winds will help temperatures warm into the pleasant low 70s this afternoon. A gradual warming trend takes shape over the next several days as we monitor another front sometime around Thanksgiving. Here’s an update with Mia.
