Op-Ed: Florida officials find plenty of fraud in Amendment 4 signature drive | Opinion
SUMMARY: Florida’s petition process for the extreme abortion amendment, Amendment 4, has been marred by allegations of illegal payments, fraud, and deceptive practices, according to a recent report by the Office of Election Crimes. Floridians Protecting Freedom, the group behind the amendment, has received over $100 million from national liberal donors, including organizations associated with George Soros. Investigations revealed multiple irregularities, such as collecting signatures from deceased voters and unauthorized circulators. This situation reflects broader trends in manipulating ballot initiatives to influence elections, similar to tactics seen in Michigan, raising urgent calls for enhanced election integrity measures in Florida and beyond.

DeSantis says Amendment 3 is most expensive ballot initiative in U.S. history | Florida
SUMMARY: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis opposes two constitutional amendments on the Nov. 5 ballot: Amendment 3, which would legalize recreational marijuana, and Amendment 4, which would enshrine abortion rights. Amendment 3, supported by significant funding from cannabis retailer Trulieve, has 60% approval in recent polling, while Amendment 4 sits at 58% approval. DeSantis argues that Amendment 3 could harm Florida’s economy, allow unrestricted public marijuana use, and create an “immunity shield” for major cannabis companies, warning that constitutional amendments are difficult to amend later. Local law enforcement officials echo concerns about the permanence of constitutional changes.

Condo residents forced to move out for up to a year during hurricane repairs
SUMMARY: Residents of the Gardens of Beacon Square in New Port Richey are facing evacuation for 6 to 12 months due to repair work following back-to-back hurricanes. Many are grappling with the emotional toll of leaving their homes, which have suffered from flood damage. The condo association insists immediate remediation is necessary due to safety concerns, with FEMA covering repair costs but not personal property loss. Residents, like Jennifer Macau, must find temporary housing while managing ongoing bills. Complications arise, including unauthorized entries by workers and a reported burglary. Jennifer plans to relocate to Georgia with her mother.
In a letter to residents, attorneys for the Gardens at Beacon Square condo association said flood water infiltration is dangerous, so remediation needs to start immediately.
