Inmate who escaped Lowndes County Jail sentenced to 32 years

SUMMARY: Terry Brooks, a 44-year-old inmate, was to 32 years in prison after escaping from Lowndes County Jail on Halloween 2023. He pleaded guilty to escape and auto burglary charges related to his jailbreak, alongside another inmate. They managed to cut a section of a window and crawl through the prison’s ventilation system. While his accomplice was quickly recaptured, Brooks attempted to steal a car before being captured three days later with assistance from enforcement. His sentence included 12 years for the escape and auto burglary, and 20 years for unrelated cocaine possession.
