Travis County must release records to FOX 7 Austin after ruling | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Texas has robust laws mandating open meetings for public entities. The Texas Attorney General has accused the Travis County Commissioners of violating these laws during a March 19 meeting regarding a $15,000 budget adjustment for security enhancements, which was discussed in executive session. A public information request by Fox 7 sought details about the funding‘s purpose, but the county withheld information citing potential threats to officials‘ safety. The AG criticized the county for concealing decisions and lacking transparency. After another vote for $115,000 in security funding, the AG ruled that the county must release the requested information, which they have yet to do.
Travis County has yet to release records to FOX 7 after the Texas Attorney General ruled they must.

Hidden Danger in Deer Park home causes family to evacuate
SUMMARY: A Deer Park family faced a hidden danger when they discovered nearly 20 pounds of spilled mercury left by the previous homeowner. The situation was serious enough to warrant a Hazmat scene, forcing the family to vacate their home for months. They lost furniture and spent significant effort to remediate the situation themselves. Despite their hardships and an official request for further testing being denied, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office and local commissioner Adrian Garcia assisted them. Eventually, testing revealed only minor mercury vapor presence, allowing the family to plan their return to the home.
The dream of homeownership quickly turned into a nightmare for the Mounts family when they discovered a hidden hazard in their new home in the College Park subdivision of Deer Park.
The situation stemmed from a seemingly innocuous container left behind by the home’s former owner, an antique repairman and stained glass artisan.
