MUW and ECCC collaborate to enhance educational access
SUMMARY: East Central Community College (ECCC) and Mississippi University for Women (MUW) have formed a partnership to create a “3+1+1” educational pathway. This collaboration allows students in specific career and technical education programs to complete three years at ECCC, followed by one year at MUW for a bachelor’s degree, and an additional year for a master’s degree. The memorandum of understanding, signed by ECCC President Dr. Brent Gregory and MUW President Nora Miller, includes 17 degree options in areas like business management, culinary arts, and information technology, aimed at enhancing educational access and professional advancement in Mississippi.

Plans to bring professional soccer to Jackson suspended

One-vehicle accident in Aberdeen claims a woman’s life
SUMMARY: A single-vehicle accident in Aberdeen, Mississippi, resulted in the death of 73-year-old Lela Swindle Pate on October 29. Pate was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra south on Coontail Road when she lost control and struck a tree. Both Pate and a family member in the vehicle were trapped but were rescued by first responders. Pate was transported to NMMC-Gilmore Amory but succumbed to her injuries, while the passenger was taken to NMMC-Tupelo and later moved to Memphis. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash; Pate was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Beth Ann White's attorney appeals her conviction
SUMMARY: Beth Ann White’s attorney has filed an appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court following her conviction for causing a crash that resulted in the deaths of a mother, Allison Conaway, and her six-month-old son, Alex, in November 2021. A jury found her guilty on multiple counts of aggravated DUI and DUI 4th offense, leading to a total sentence of 110 years in prison. The crash also left Conaway’s two other children with severe injuries.
