Mississippi Supreme Court elections raise questions on partisanship, highlight importance of down-ballot races
SUMMARY: Mississippi voters will head to the polls on November 5 to decide on two contested state Supreme Court seats amid the presidential election. Incumbent Justice Jim Kitchens, seeking a third term, faces four challengers, including Republican state senator Jennifer Branning, who positions herself as a “constitutional conservative.” Kitchens emphasizes his integrity and experience, while Branning prioritizes adherence to the Constitution. Another contested race features Justice Dawn H. Beam against attorney David Sullivan, both promising impartiality. Political analysts predict a potential runoff between Kitchens and Branning if no outright winner emerges. Supreme Court races serve as the final review for lower court decisions.
