Helene: Avery, Yancey schools still closed in 5th week of recovery | North Carolina

Grant program brings region together | Tennessee

FBI executes search warrant at Garner home, searching vehicles in driveway

SUMMARY: FBI agents conducted a raid this noon in the quiet Hunters Mark neighborhood of Wake County, specifically at a home on Hay Street, near the Amazon fulfillment center. The operation, visible with agents searching vehicles and the house, involved towing a pickup truck from the scene. A , who identified himself as co-owner of an auto repair business, stated that agents were seeking information related to transactions. The community was startled by the early morning activity, and the investigation is ongoing as gather more details. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.

The FBI on Tuesday executed a search warrant at a Garner home, and WRAL spoke to the man who lived there.

Before 9:15 a.m., there was a enforcement presence at a home on Hay River Street in Garner, within the Hunters Mark subdivision, close to the Amazon Distribution Center on Jones Sausage Road. Agents were coming in and out of the home and searching multiple vehicles parked in the driveway. The agents were opening the doors and hoods of the vehicles, searching through them and taking photos.

A pickup truck was towed away from the home. The scene cleared by 11:45 a.m.

A spokesperson from the FBI could not provide additional details about the search warrant or why agents were at the home, but WRAL News spoke to a man who appeared to in the home when he got into his car to away.

“They just searched my cars and searched me, that’s all,” the man described.

When WRAL News asked the man if he knew what the FBI was looking for, the man answered, “Information, I guess … related to transactions, that’s all they could tell me.”

The man said he is a co-owner of an automotive repair business, and the transactions involved that business.

FEMA aid in North Carolina tops $190 million โ€ข Asheville Watchdog

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has doled out more than $190 million in individual assistance to North Carolina for Tropical Storm Helene with more than one-third going to Buncombe County.

Data provided by FEMA to as of Tuesday morning shows 47,948 applicants in Buncombe have received nearly $67 million.ย 

The aid is broken down into two categories:

  • Housing assistance covers lodging reimbursement, rent or temporary housing for those displaced from their homes, home repairs and replacement, rebuilding of privately owned roads and bridges to access homes, and hazard mitigation to rebuild more durable housing.
  • Other needs assistance includes $750 per household for essential items like food, , baby formula and medication. It also covers childcare expenses related to the disaster, money to โ€œclean and sanitizeโ€ for or safety concerns, funeral, medical and dental expenses, and funds to replace furnishings and vehicles damaged by the Sept. 27 storm.

The majority of the assistance paid in Buncombe, nearly $55 million, has been for other needs, with $12 million for housing, the data show.

FEMA pays for losses that are not covered by insurance. Applicants may total assistance of up to $42,500 for housing and $42,500 for other needs. To apply, go to DisasterAssistance.gov, the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.ย
