Restoration of Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris nearing completion
SUMMARY: Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, after a devastating fire in April 2019, is set to hold its first Mass in three days, thanks to extensive global restoration efforts. Over 5.5 years, a dedicated team of architects, engineers, and artisans meticulously restored the 12th-century landmark to its pre-fire state, adhering to French President Emmanuel Macron’s vision. This involved rebuilding the spire and roof using century-old oak and replicating 19th-century designs. Some elements, like the 40-foot metal cross and the eight bells, survived and were restored. Enhanced fire safety measures ensure that Notre-Dame can continue to grace the Paris skyline securely.
Years after a devastating fire at the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, France, the restoration of the world-famous cathedral is almost complete.
