Representative Creekmore looks to decrease cell phone use at school
SUMMARY: Lawmakers are investigating the causes of the mental health crisis among children, leading Representative Sam Creekmore to draft future legislation aimed at public schools. The proposed bill would ban mobile phones during school hours, although the specifics are still under development. Creekmore believes that the bill, which may allow flexibility for individual school districts in implementing the phone ban, could help address mental health issues since children spend significant time at school. He is seeking support from other lawmakers and has consulted with the state superintendent and the Department of Mental Health for their input, aiming for a 2025 introduction.
