Tennessee AG: ICE ‘knowingly released murderers and rapists’ onto U.S. streets | Tennessee
SUMMARY: Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti criticized the Biden administration, claiming U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released murderers and rapists from detention facilities into communities. His office obtained records through a lawsuit that revealed ICE’s plan to release large numbers of migrants was halted due to pushback from Tennessee officials. The documents indicated that over 7,000 detainees, including many with significant criminal histories, were released from Louisiana facilities, with little intention of claiming asylum. Skrmetti vowed to hold the federal government accountable for its immigration failures and emphasized the need for transparency and safety in immigration enforcement.
