Norton Healthcare unveils new monument honoring early medical pioneers in Louisville
SUMMARY: Norton Healthcare unveiled a new monument at the Goodwill Opportunity Campus in West Louisville to honor those who dedicated their lives to providing medical care to underserved communities. This unveiling coincides with plans to open the Norton West Louisville Hospital, the first new hospital west of Ninth Street in 150 years. Funded by Dr. Richard Wolfe’s family, the monument acknowledges healthcare pioneers who made significant sacrifices during legalized segregation in an area lacking medical facilities for people of color. Following the unveiling, Norton hosted a community block party to provide resources and celebrate this important addition to the community.
