โYellow Perilโ finds permanent home in Foley, future aviation museum
SUMMARY: A vintage N3N biplane, built in 1941 and significant to World War II, recently completed a two-day flight from New York to Baldwin County. This aircraft will be a cornerstone exhibit in a planned museum in Foley, which recognizes the area’s military history. Mayor Ralph Helmi noted that Baldwin County trained 60% of naval aviators since 1918. The museum aims to honor local pilots and preserve various training aircraft like T-28s and T-34s. While this biplane’s flying days are over, its historical importance remains vital to Baldwin County, designated as a World War II heritage site.
The N3N biplane, built in 1941, has been absent from the skies for many decades, but the Naval trainer called the โYellow Perilโ was once a frequent site around Foley and Barin Field.
