Nationwide IV fluid bag shortage hits North Texas hospitals
SUMMARY: One month after Hurricane Helen devastated parts of the Southeast, IV bag shortages persist, particularly affecting a major Baxter facility in North Carolina that produces 60% of the company’s bags. Steven Love, president of the DFW Hospital Council, reports that while North Texas hospitals are managing and conserving resources, elective surgeries have not been postponed. However, some areas in Texas face significant challenges, highlighting the vital role IV fluids play in healthcare. To address the shortage, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is facilitating imports, with Baxter’s operations expected to resume fully by December.
The DFW Hospital Council admits local hospitals have been impacted, but they are not in panic mode yet. However, that’s not the case in other parts of Texas.

Cruz campaign files complaint with FEC over Allred, Democratic committee ads | Texas
SUMMARY: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against his Democratic challenger, U.S. Rep. Collin Allred. The complaint alleges coordination between Allred and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) on ad buys, exceeding legal limits. Cruz, who leads in polls by a slim margin, claims the DSCC’s $10.6 million in ads violates federal law as they don’t qualify as hybrid ads. Allred’s campaign has not commented, directing inquiries to the DSCC, which defends the ad strategy. The complaint comes amid early voting in Texas, showing long lines and heightened voter engagement.
