Nationwide IV fluid bag shortage hits North Texas hospitals
SUMMARY: One month after Hurricane Helen devastated parts of the Southeast, IV bag shortages persist, particularly affecting a major Baxter facility in North Carolina that produces 60% of the company’s bags. Steven Love, president of the DFW Hospital Council, reports that while North Texas hospitals are managing and conserving resources, elective surgeries have not been postponed. However, some areas in Texas face significant challenges, highlighting the vital role IV fluids play in healthcare. To address the shortage, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is facilitating imports, with Baxter’s operations expected to resume fully by December.
The DFW Hospital Council admits local hospitals have been impacted, but they are not in panic mode yet. However, that’s not the case in other parts of Texas.

Paxton makes criminal referral to DOJ over ActBlue donations | Texas
SUMMARY: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a criminal referral to the U.S. Department of Justice regarding ActBlue, a Democratic Party online fundraising platform, based on findings from a year-long investigation. Paxton requested the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to implement new regulations to prevent illegal “straw donations” that may violate campaign finance laws. The investigation uncovered evidence indicating that certain individuals were making contributions on behalf of others, potentially involving fraud and identity theft. ActBlue, which claims to have facilitated over $15.8 billion in donations since 2004, has faced scrutiny amid concerns about campaign finance abuses and donor anonymity.

Menendez brothers: What resentencing decision means
SUMMARY: Prosecutors in Los Angeles recommend that brothers Eric and Lyle Menendez be resentenced decades after their 1989 conviction for murdering their parents. District Attorney George Gascon, who is running for reelection, argues they should be released, citing both men‘s long imprisonment and new evidence of their past abuse. The brothers, who served over 30 years of a life sentence without parole, claimed they killed their parents due to emotional and sexual abuse. Gascon believes they no longer pose a threat, and their case will be reviewed by a parole board after a superior court judge formally resentences them next month.
Erik and Lyle Menendez have served more than 30 years in prison for the murder of their parents. Now, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is recommending the brothers be resentenced because of new evidence in the case. The move could make them eligible for release.
