Want to be a Houston firefighter? Here's what it takes
SUMMARY: Houston’s fire department faces a critical shortage of nearly 600 firefighters, impacting the third-largest fire department in the U.S. Recruiting and training new cadets is essential. Photojournalist Roger Franco highlighted the rigorous training process, beginning at 5:30 AM with physical training, classroom work, and practical drills. Trainees learn essential skills by wearing 60 lbs of gear, navigating confined spaces, and using firefighting tools. The training culminates in live burns, preparing them for real-life situations. To address staffing issues, the department is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for new cadets. More information is available on clicktohouston.com.

Paxton makes criminal referral to DOJ over ActBlue donations | Texas
SUMMARY: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a criminal referral to the U.S. Department of Justice regarding ActBlue, a Democratic Party online fundraising platform, based on findings from a year-long investigation. Paxton requested the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to implement new regulations to prevent illegal “straw donations” that may violate campaign finance laws. The investigation uncovered evidence indicating that certain individuals were making contributions on behalf of others, potentially involving fraud and identity theft. ActBlue, which claims to have facilitated over $15.8 billion in donations since 2004, has faced scrutiny amid concerns about campaign finance abuses and donor anonymity.
