Governor Ivey removes Alabama VA Commissioner
SUMMARY: Governor Kay Ivey requested the Veterans Affairs Board to remove Commissioner Kent Davis, who was criticized for mishandling $7 million in ARPA funds for veterans’ mental health services. The Board voted 3-2 to retain Davis, but within an hour, Ivey used her executive power to fire him. Davis had previously agreed to resign by the year’s end but hesitated in recent meetings. Ivey cited a “total failure of leadership” and a lack of cooperation as reasons for her decision. Following Davis’s removal, Ivey appointed Jeffrey Newton as his successor.
