Hillsborough Street, I 440 gas leak closure near state fair could last into Tuesday afternoon
SUMMARY: Traffic on I-440 at Hillsboro Street is severely impacted due to a gas leak, causing road closures in both directions. Crews are expected to take several hours to cap the leak and begin repairs. Live reports show heavy congestion, with many vehicles diverted around the area, including along Trinity Road, which has also become gridlocked. The gas leak, detected near an overpass, prompted police to issue the road closures for safety. Authorities are monitoring the situation and will provide updates regarding when the roadways will be reopened and normal traffic can resume.
A gas leak closed Hillsborough Street in both directions at Interstate 440 in west Raleigh Tuesday, complicating commutes for drivers headed to the North Carolina State Fair.
Before 9:30 a.m., the road was closed between Beryl Road and Blue Ridge Road near the fairgrounds. I-440 between Western Boulevard and Wade Avenue was closed as well. Sky 5 flew over traffic backups all the way to Cary Parkway on I-440 North around 10 a.m.

1.3 million people in NC act as caregivers for family members
SUMMARY: This month, National Caregivers Month honors those supporting individuals with special needs. Haley King, born with an extra chromosome, defied early grim predictions, thanks to the unwavering support of her parents and the Tammy Lynn Center in Raleigh. The center offers vital programs like residential care, therapeutic support, and day services but has a waiting list of 18,000 people. Experts emphasize the importance of caregivers finding additional resources, including family support groups. Tammy Lynn Center CEO Sarah Crawford urges the public to educate themselves about the needs of individuals with disabilities, while Haley, now 33, continues to thrive and spread joy.
During Caregivers Awareness, Julian Grace shares how their work helps the lives of several NC families, and that some caregivers say the job is taking a toll on their mental health.
