Order on Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law expected by Nov. 15 | Louisiana
SUMMARY: A U.S. District Court in Middle Louisiana is considering arguments against Gov. Jeff Landry’s House Bill 71, which mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in public classrooms. Plaintiffs, including parents and organizations like Americans United for Separation of Church and State, seek a preliminary injunction to block this requirement due to concerns over religious freedom and potential First Amendment violations. Dr. Steven Green’s report suggests minimal historical precedent for the Commandments in public education or foundational U.S. documents. The judge is set to make a ruling by November 15, while the state argues the lawsuit is premature.
