Strong NC voter turnout continues as Republicans, Democrats make pitches
SUMMARY: Voter enthusiasm is evident as many volunteers and voters line up for ballots, sometimes waiting over an hour. The importance of the election is emphasized by comments highlighting a surge in outreach, with frequent campaign ads and texts, particularly from Republicans promoting early voting. Political Science Professor Dr. Michael Biter notes higher participation rates among suburban, white, and older voters, but cautions against drawing early conclusions. Both parties are striving to energize supporters, with an emphasis on reflecting on past presidencies. Early voting in North Carolina continues until November 2nd, and voters must present photo ID to participate.
North Carolina voters have not been deterred by the long wait times. The state set a new record in the first few days of early voting.

Democrats tout lowering prescription drug prices
SUMMARY: President Joe Biden praised efforts to cut healthcare costs and lower prescription drug prices, highlighting a projected $60 billion savings for taxpayers. During an event in New Hampshire with Senator Bernie Sanders, they emphasized the common frustration among Americans of high drug prices. A new report from the Department of Health and Human Services revealed that nearly 1.5 million Medicare enrollees saved around $1 billion on drugs in early 2024 due to the Inflation Reduction Act, enabling Medicare to negotiate prices and capping insulin costs at $35 per month. Additionally, starting next year, out-of-pocket prescription costs for Medicare recipients will be capped at $2,000 annually.
Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders spoke Tuesday about the nearly $1B in savings for Medicare patients.
