Robert Roberson hearing: Ex-juror, lawyers, Dr. Phil testify in 'shaken baby syndrome' hearing
SUMMARY: A juror from the trial of death row inmate Robert Roberson testified that she now believes he is innocent after learning new evidence. Roberson, convicted in 2002 of killing his 2-year-old daughter, was initially sentenced based solely on shaken baby syndrome, a diagnosis now challenged by recent medical science. His execution was postponed last week as a Texas House committee debated whether he could testify in person or via video; ultimately, he did not appear. Advocates, including author John Grisham and TV host Dr. Phil, are pushing for a retrial, citing potential miscarriages of justice in the case.
A man on death row who was set to testify before members of the Texas Legislature on Monday afternoon did not do so after all. Dr. Phil and author John Grisham testified, as well as a former juror in the trial.

City cleans dumping site in South Park neighborhood after KPRC 2 steps in
SUMMARY: Residents in a Southside Houston neighborhood are frustrated with illegal dumping, particularly at an old Family Dollar site. Despite calling 311 for months, they saw little action until KPRC 2 intervened. Piles of garbage, including mattresses and building materials, were removed after community efforts led to city engagement. Council member Carolyn Evans Shabaz is advocating for surveillance cameras to identify offenders, highlighting the need for better enforcement and community cooperation. Plans for permanent solutions include installing chain fencing and placing liens on the property to prevent future dumping. The community remains hopeful for lasting improvements.
In a matter of hours, KPRC 2 was able to mobilize city resources to clean up an illegal dumping site in Houston’s South Park neighborhood in just a few hours.

Robert Roberson was no show at House committee hearing | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: During a House committee meeting on criminal justice, death row inmate Robert Robertson was notably absent as the Attorney General labeled him a security risk. Chairman Joe Moody asserted the committee did not intend to create a constitutional crisis with its subpoena. The governor’s office filed a briefing claiming the committee overstepped its authority by halting Robertson’s execution, as clemency lies solely with the governor. A prayer was said by seminary students against the death penalty. Representative Drew Derby raised concerns about adherence to a law requiring appeals courts to address flawed science in Robertson’s shaken baby conviction, emphasizing the need for truth and justice.
Death row inmate Robert Roberson was a no show at a hearing on Monday. Roberson was subpoenaed by the House Jurisprudence Committee as a way to stop his execution that was set for last week.
