Road safety advocates encourage road awareness in Lexington on National Move Over Day
SUMMARY: National Move Over Day emphasizes road safety for both emergency responders and drivers. Every six days, a tow driver dies while working roadside, highlighting the urgency of this advocacy. The Slow Down Move Over law, established in Kentucky in 2003 and now applicable nationwide, mandates that drivers slow down and, if safe, move over a lane when encountering first responders or disabled vehicles. From 2017 to 2021, AAA reported over 1,800 incidents of people being struck while outside disabled cars. Violating this law can result in fines of up to $500. Prioritizing safety can save lives.
October 19 recognizes National Move Over Day, aimed at promoting better safety measures for people and vehicles on the road.
