Helene: Hard-hit 13 mountain counties turning out early to vote | North Carolina
SUMMARY: Only one of 13 counties in the North Carolina mountains, impacted by Hurricane Helene, has not accepted at least 10% of registered voters’ ballots during the first three days of early voting. As of Saturday, over 69,000 voters, or 11.5%, had cast ballots, despite severe weather challenges, including 493 road closures. Lawmakers expanded emergency measures to 25 counties for recovery efforts, with absentee ballots mailed and in-person voting continuing. Political candidates, including Trump and Harris, are actively campaigning in the state, making its electoral significance critical. Overall, early voting turnout is encouraging, suggesting voter engagement amid the crisis.
