Orionid meteor shower to peak this weekend
SUMMARY: Halley’s Comet has been visible recently, but the Orionid meteor shower will peak on October 21st and 22nd, offering a better viewing opportunity as it will be directly overhead. Best viewing time is around 2 a.m., weather permitting, with an expected 20 to 30 meteors per hour. While the Orionids are modest compared to more prolific showers like the Perseids and upcoming Geminids in December, they will benefit from reduced light pollution due to their overhead position. Following the Orionids, the Northern Taurids will peak on November 11th and 12th, leading up to the more active Geminids on December 13th and 14th.

News of Oklahoma bank failure, shutdown by federal agency shocks residents
SUMMARY: The First National Bank of Lindsay has been shut down by the FDIC due to allegations of false records suggesting fraud. Longtime customers, like Lynn Scruggs, who has banked there for 60 years, express shock over the closure. FDIC officials are on-site to ensure the transition, guaranteeing accounts with $250,000 or less are fully insured, but are still determining compensation for larger accounts. This incident marks the second bank failure in the U.S. this year and the first in Oklahoma since 2014. Despite the upheaval, the local community remains resilient and is adjusting to the changes.

House fire prevention tips
SUMMARY: In Northwest Oklahoma City, fire crews responded to a house fire possibly caused by extension cords near the floor furnace. Fire officials emphasize that as temperatures drop, the risk of house fires increases, particularly due to safety lapses while trying to stay warm. Common causes include chimney fires, overloaded outlets, and improper use of space heaters. Fire Department representative Scott Douglas advises maintaining a three-foot clearance around heating devices and ensuring smoke alarms are operational. Oklahoma has a high rate of house fires, especially in January and February, underscoring the importance of safety precautions during colder months.
