Strangers rally to support Florida woman battling cancer after hurricanes destroy her home
SUMMARY: Strangers are rallying to support Patrice Buron, a terminal breast cancer fighter whose home was destroyed by hurricanes. To raise funds for her medical bills, Patrice initiated a campaign called “Duck Cancer,” selling customized rubber ducks to promote awareness and encourage women to seek scans. After losing everything in Hurricane Milton, she received unexpected assistance from Denita and Michael WBL, who offered space at their restaurant in Ormond Beach for her fundraiser. The community’s generosity has touched her deeply, with hundreds of dollars raised to aid her treatment, highlighting the power of compassion and support in difficult times.
After back-to-back hurricanes destroyed her home, a woman battling terminal breast cancer found hope in the kindness of strangers. Patrice Bergeron has faced an uphill battle since her diagnosis.

Tax relief for those impacted by recent hurricanes
SUMMARY: Home and business owners in Hillsboro County, impacted by Hurricane Milton, may qualify for property tax relief. Charles Hollowell and his wife are repairing extensive damage to their home, estimating costs around $7,000, and will temporarily relocate due to mildew issues. While property taxes still apply, homeowners whose residences are uninhabitable for over 30 days can apply for a catastrophic event tax refund by submitting documentation to the County property appraiser by March 1, 2025. Additionally, this year’s property tax notices will be delayed to November 25, with an extended 4% discount period to December 31, providing extra relief.
In the wake of devastating hurricanes Milton and Helene, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez has created a coalition of local government officials with the aim of providing tax relief for area home and business owners who have suffered property damage.

Two named storms in the Atlantic do not seem to pose a risk to Florida
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Jason Adams provided a tropical update, discussing Hurricane Oscar, which rapidly intensified to a category 1 hurricane with 85 mph winds, impacting the Turks and Caicos. Notably, the hurricane’s force winds extend only five miles, making it unusually small. Currently moving west, it poses no threat to Florida due to a cold front creating a blocking high pressure. Oscar is expected to turn northeast and stay off the Atlantic coast. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Nen has made landfall in Belize, moving towards southern Mexico, but outside these systems, the Atlantic remains calm. Updates on Oscar will continue.
“Does not look to be any kind of a risk for us here in Tampa Bay.” Meteorologist Jason Adams gives an update about two named storms in the Atlantic.
