Fort Negley to undergo $12 million renovation

Cirel Stewart, president of Friends of Fort Negley, emphasizes the ‘s importance for education and community engagement. The plan includes upgrading walking trails, creating native grasslands, and preserving historical elements that reflect the fort’s dark past, its connection to enslaved individuals. Construction starts next year, lasting about 18 months, with hopes of raising an additional $10-15 million for future phases.

The renovation will make the Civil War-era fort a recreational area as well as a historic site.

Winter weather outlook for Middle Tennessee
