Davis, Buckhout raise millions in District 1 | North Carolina
SUMMARY: In North Carolina’s competitive U.S. House race, Republican Laurie Buckhout has raised nearly $4 million, but Democrat incumbent Don Davis outpaced her, bringing in over $5 million, making it one of the nation’s costliest races. With Election Day approaching, Davis maintains a significant financial advantage with $2.5 million left compared to Buckhout’s under $1 million. Davis, having won by just 5% in 2022, is favored to retain his seat, holding a 77% chance of victory. โDisaster Equity:โ FEMA shifted focus to migrants, climate and DEI | National
SUMMARY: FEMA is facing criticism for prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives over disaster relief in its 2022-2026 strategic plan. While the agency’s primary goal is now DEI, critics argue that this shift distracts from its disaster response obligations, especially amid hurricane impacts. Funding for migrants, including $300 million for immigrant settlement, has raised concerns about FEMA’s focus, particularly after officials indicated potential funding shortages for disaster efforts. While supporters assert that disaster relief and migrant funding are sourced separately, many view this as a misallocation of resources during a critical hurricane season.
