Texas halts execution after last-minute appeal
SUMMARY: Good morning, Shelby. I’m Megan Pia with WKRN.com. In a significant development, the Texas Supreme Court has halted Robert Robertson’s execution in a shaken baby case. He was set to die for the 2002 death of his 2-year-old daughter, Nikki. A Texas judge had initially delayed the execution for new evidence, but an appeals court overturned that hold. Advocates petitioned the Supreme Court, which granted the stay. Robertson’s lawyer argues that shaken baby syndrome has been discredited and cites his undiagnosed autism as a reason for his emotional response. The next hearing is scheduled for Monday. For ongoing updates, visit wkrn.com.
