Mother killed her baby, placed her in trash can on University of Tampa campus, police say
SUMMARY: Brianna Moore, a 19-year-old student at the University of Tampa, was charged with aggravated manslaughter after her newborn was found dead in a trash can on campus. Moore allegedly gave birth in her dorm bathroom and failed to seek medical help, claiming to police that the blood was from her menstrual cycle. An autopsy revealed the baby had suffered multiple fractures and ruled the death as homicide. Police were alerted by roommates who heard a baby crying. State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized the importance of Florida’s Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to safely surrender newborns.
