Second person indicted in Jackson bribery scandal
SUMMARY: A second individual involved in the Jackson bribery scandal has been indicted following the previous indictment of former City Councilwoman Angelique Lee. Sherik Marve Smith was charged with conspiring to provide cash and campaign contributions to elected officials in exchange for favorable votes on a proposed real estate development. Court documents reveal that Smith and his co-conspirators, including elected officials, agreed to facilitate these actions for confidential sources working with the FBI. Lee resigned after being indicted for accepting substantial payments from these sources, which were discovered by the FBI during a raid on her home.
