Gov. Reeves sending more state resources to Florida for hurricane aid
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves is enhancing state assistance to the southeastern U.S. following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. He announced the deployment of two floodplain managers from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to assist in recovery efforts in Florida, including damage assessments and training for local emergency managers. Combined, the hurricanes impacted seven states, resulting in over 300 fatalities and more than $100 billion in damage. Additionally, Mississippi has deployed 12 Mission Ready Packages to provide support, with National Guard and emergency staff on the ground, while local utility companies are also aiding recovery efforts.

Man arrested for allegedly sneaking meth, marijuana into Kemper County jail
SUMMARY: Yul Delbrico Fitzgerald Nason was arrested for allegedly sneaking methamphetamine and marijuana into the Kemper/Neshoba Regional Correctional Facility. The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office reported that Nason is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and two counts of introducing contraband into a correctional facility. Nason allegedly communicated with an accomplice involved in a similar drug smuggling case and received payments via CashApp for delivering drugs to inmates. He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service and is currently being taken to Kemper County for processing.
