Electoral battleground North Carolina starts early in-person voting while recovering from Helene

Isabelle Marak reports from Buncombe County, where voter turnout is high despite changes in polling locations due to Hurricane Helene. At the UNCA and Counseling Center, lines extend outside, indicating strong voter participation. Polling opened at 9 a.m., with voters eager to ensure their voices are heard. Early voting will continue from 9 to 5, ending on Saturday, November 2, at 3 p.m. More voting location details can be found on WYFF4’s website.

Early in-person voting began Thursday in the presidential battleground of North Carolina, in the western mountainous still recovering from Helene.

A volunteer in Maran, near Asheville, emphasized the importance of rebuilding and stated that major financial is crucial for many businesses to reopen. He suggested that people can by from local online shops and urged other business owners to offer support. The recovery is complicated, with entire industries affected. Ongoing cleanup efforts are underway, and influential business leaders are expected to assist in the recovery. Financial contributions are being raised to aid humanitarian relief efforts.

Some businesses in Western North Carolina were devastated by Helene and are working towards recovery.

ABC15 spoke with a volunteer and supply coordinator on Wednesday who is in Marion, North Carolina, which is just of Asheville.

Comet visible to stargazers across Carolinas, Georgia for next several days

Meteorologist Griffin Hardy, from the Roper Mountain Science Center in Greenville, confirms that the weather is perfect for observing this celestial . The comet, which recently made its closest approach to Earth at about 44 million miles, can be seen low on the western horizon about 30 to 45 minutes after sunset around 6:50 PM. This rare sight will be visible at dusk for approximately another .
