Election officials ready for start of early voting in NC
SUMMARY: Early voting in North Carolina begins Thursday, with high expectations for record turnout. Durham County’s Elections Director, Derek Bowens, anticipates around 130,000 early voters, surpassing the 117,649 from 2020, which represented 65% of the total. The election is deemed crucial, with new rules in place: no grace period for absentee ballots (due by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day) and mandatory voter ID verification. Voter Melissa Loof prefers early voting due to its flexibility and shorter wait times compared to Election Day. All 12 early voting sites in Durham County, including the main library, are prepared for the influx of voters.
