Judge dismisses lawsuit over old abortion rights ruling in Mississippi
SUMMARY: A Mississippi judge dismissed a lawsuit by the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists that questioned the conflict between a 2022 abortion ban and a 1998 state Supreme Court ruling guaranteeing abortion rights. Hinds County Chancery Judge Crystal Wise Martin found that the association lacked legal standing, as it failed to prove any disciplinary threats from the State Board of Medical Licensure against its members. The plaintiffs plan to appeal the ruling to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The case comes after the U.S. Supreme Court‘s decision in 2022 that overturned nationwide abortion rights.
