Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, his lawyers announce defamation lawsuit against CNN
SUMMARY: Mark Robinson has filed a lawsuit against CNN in Wake County Superior Court, alleging the network’s report is a “hit piece” and constitutes election interference, just days before early voting begins. He argues that the report, claiming he made inappropriate posts in a pornographic chat room, is false and relies on dubious sources from hacked information. While CNN maintains its stance, Robinson’s campaign faces turmoil, with staff resignations and ad spending pulled by the Republican Governors Association. He is seeking $50 million in damages but acknowledges skepticism among Republicans about his gubernatorial candidacy. CNN has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
On Tuesday, Jesse Binnall, Robinson’s attorney, said they seek $50 million in damages from the media outlet.

Audit: Ports Authority reports positive net change of $50.1M | North Carolina
SUMMARY: The North Carolina State Ports Authority reported a positive net change of $50.1 million for fiscal year 2024, according to a state auditor’s analysis. The audit found no material weaknesses or compliance issues. The increase primarily resulted from $45 million in state capital appropriations, along with improved investment income. Key developments included investments in container operations, intermodal services, and expanded refrigeration, enhancing the Port of Wilmington. However, global disruptions, such as those affecting the Panama Canal and Suez Canal, negatively impacted container and terminal volumes. The fiscal 2025 budget anticipates a return to normal cargo volumes.

Cooper, FEMA blame misinformation for threats
SUMMARY: Governor Roy Cooper and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell addressed threats against FEMA workers in western North Carolina, attributing the incident to misinformation. A single credible threat led to a pause in operations, with 44-year-old William Parsons charged for threatening workers while armed. Both officials highlighted the negative impact of misinformation on aid applications and community safety, with Cooper condemning Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson for contributing to the problem. Despite concerns, FEMA operations have resumed. In a positive development, the North Carolina Forest Service is collaborating with McDowell County Emergency Services to build foot bridges for residents affected by severe damage.
Governor Roy Cooper said during a news conference Tuesday that 92 people are still unaccounted for in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene killed hundreds across the southeast.

Village District could become Raleigh's second social district
SUMMARY: A new social district may be developed in the Village District of Raleigh, allowing open consumption of alcohol in designated areas. This area, close to downtown and NC State, could enhance the shopping and dining experience. City leaders emphasized the need for outreach to local residents to gauge support. While businesses and shoppers expressed enthusiasm for the proposal, concerns about potential negative behaviors were raised. Data shows a rise in crime since the introduction of Raleigh’s first social district. The city council plans to revisit this discussion in mid-November before moving forward with the proposal.
Raleigh leaders are considering expanding the Sip n’ Stroll program to the Village District, which would allow people to drink beer, wine or cocktails from specially marked cups during specific times and areas of the Village District.
