Tuesday Noon Tropical Update: One spot in Atlantic could develop
SUMMARY: As of mid-October, six weeks remain in hurricane season, ending November 30. While widespread threats of tropical development are less common, two areas are being monitored. One in the open Atlantic, though currently not very threatening, is expected to strengthen as it approaches Puerto Rico. Additionally, there is a small area of potential development near Nicaragua. Fortunately, the Gulf of Mexico is dry, which should inhibit any formations that may develop elsewhere, despite some moisture and slightly warmer waters in the eastern regions. Overall, the situation appears manageable.
There is one spot to watch for potential tropical development in the central Atlantic Ocean. It is denoted as Invest 94.
According to the National Hurricane Center, it has a “medium chance” of developing. Invest 94 may turn into a tropical depression near the Caribbean Islands later this week. There is a long time to watch how this evolves, and it does not look like it will move near the continental United States, though it will be monitored until it dies.

Report: LDH pulling back on vaccine push
SUMMARY: Anonymous employees from the Louisiana Health Department claim that leadership has instructed them not to promote COVID-19 and flu vaccines anymore. A report from NPR cites four employees who were told to cease social media posts, vaccine events, and press releases about vaccination encouragement due to a re-evaluation of messaging as the pandemic evolves. The health department did not confirm specifics but acknowledged the change in approach. Experts warn that this shift may lead to decreased vaccination rates during a time when Louisiana is experiencing high flu cases, potentially increasing illness and mortality rates. Vaccines remain available and free through various local channels.
Anonymous employees say the state health department is pulling back on telling people to get vaccinated. That’s according to a report published by NPR on Friday.

They said a doctor groped them — prosecutors refused charges
SUMMARY: Bethany Cooney-Palmer filed a police report in May 2022 after an uncomfortable appointment with Dr. Bahman Sabbaghian, who allegedly conducted an improper examination. Two years later, her case, along with another woman’s, was dismissed by the district attorney’s office. Sabbaghian’s lawyer argued that a female staff member was present, but Cooney-Palmer denied this. Despite the criminal case being dismissed, Cooney-Palmer and others sought civil action, though a lawyer declined their case due to statute of limitations. Frustrated, Cooney-Palmer shared her story on social media, leading more women to come forward. Investigations by the medical board and police continue.
