Lilly Ledbetter's memoir author reacts to her death
SUMMARY: Lilly Ledbetter, an advocate for equal pay, passed away at 86, leaving a profound legacy in the fight for gender wage equality. As an area manager at Goodyear Tire, she discovered her pay disparity compared to male counterparts, prompting her landmark lawsuit that ultimately reached the Supreme Court. Although she never received the financial compensation she fought for, her case led to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act signed by President Obama. Local author Lanier Isom, who penned Ledbetter’s memoir, reflects on their deep friendship and Ledbetter’s indomitable spirit in advocating for fairness in the workplace. A movie titled “Lilly” about her life recently premiered.
“This was an ordinary woman who did extraordinary things.” Author Lanier Isom on Ledbetter.
