MCC hosting Flex Factor at local high schools

SUMMARY: The Flex Factor initiative invites freshman to present innovative ideas to a panel of local industry , supported by a grant from Accelerate Mississippi. This program collaborates with local high schools to inspire students to create inventions that address real-world challenges. Northeast High School was the first of six schools to compete, showcasing student-developed products aimed at solving future problems. Students have worked since late August on manufacturing, problem-solving, and marketing strategies. Final pitches are taking place this , with three additional high schools to present their ideas next week.

SUMMARY: Happy Monday! Several teams were in action, vying for a spot at . Newton County showed strong , but the Cougars lost to New Albany, 3-1. The Union Yellow Jackets off against the Ingamar Falcons in a close and intense match, ultimately falling to the Falcons, also 3-1. Additionally, Nooba Central’s season ended with a loss to the Gators, 3-0. However, the Lake Hornets triumphed over St. Andrew’s Episcopal, securing a spot in the State Championship with a 3-1 victory. Congratulations to the Hornets, who will compete on Thursday at noon!

Lauderdale County 2024 Property Taxes increasing by 20%

This increase applies to all property owners, those in Meridian, despite the lowered its property taxes. Due to a new assessment, property values across the county have risen by 20%. However, individuals over 65 years old are exempt from the increase unless there’s a change in the millage rate, a enacted two years ago. Tax assessments are required every four years, which necessitated this adjustment.
