Medicare open enrollment 2025: The changes you need to know
SUMMARY: Medicare Open Enrollment begins October 15th, with significant changes starting January 1st, 2024. For the first time, out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will be capped at $2,000, ending the “doughnut hole” gap in coverage. This could lead to substantial savings, with many beneficiaries potentially saving over $1,000 annually. However, some may encounter new deductibles or higher copay percentages for services like MRIs. It’s crucial for recipients to review the annual notice detailing these changes and consider utilizing free services for assistance. Open Enrollment closes December 7th, so beneficiaries are encouraged to understand their options thoroughly.
For the first time in the history of the Medicare program, out-of-pocket prescription drug costs will be capped. Changes to Medicare Advantage plans or standalone Part D plans begin Jan. 1, 2025.

Building fire forcing Stan Musial Bridge to close
SUMMARY: A massive fire is currently engulfing an old cold storage building in North St. Louis, with firefighters facing a challenging situation as they’ve battled the blaze for hours. The fire broke out around 1:00 PM, leading to the closure of the Stan Musial Bridge due to heavy smoke and visibility issues. Fire crews are struggling to combat the flames due to the building’s heavy insulation and lack of open windows. With 45-50 firefighters on scene, efforts have intensified, although conditions remain dangerous. This marks the second fire at the location, with the previous incident occurring in July.
Crews with IDOT and MoDOT worked with the St. Louis Fire Department to shut down the Stan Musial Bridge Monday due to a building fire directly next to Interstate 70.
