Audit: Commission reviewing child abuse cases often lacked a quorum | Tennessee
SUMMARY: An audit of Tennessee’s Second Look Commission, responsible for reviewing severe child abuse cases, revealed issues with member vacancies and attendance, which are being addressed. Established in 2010, the commission often lacked a quorum, with only 40% of meetings achieving the necessary attendance. The audit highlighted inaccuracies in attendance reporting, complicating member activity assessments. The commission is revising its attendance tracking methods and has improved meeting attendance recently. Following legislative testimony, the commission’s extension for another four years was approved. Officials emphasized the importance of participation, with ongoing efforts to fill remaining vacancies.

Rare comet sighting: How, where, and when to see it
SUMMARY: A comet named C/2023 A3 Shushin Shan Atlas will be visible from Middle Tennessee for the next 10 days, with optimal viewing in the coming nights. According to meteorologist Alex Libby, the comet has recently been visible and was captured in a time-lapse by NASA astronaut Matthew Dominic. To see the comet, look west about 45 minutes after sunset; it will be located to the right of Venus. As October progresses, the comet will rise higher in the sky, making it harder to spot, so viewing away from city lights is recommended.
