Elberta teen's blood alcohol level 10 times higher than legal limit: autopsy
SUMMARY: Three months after 17-year-old Avery Pickle’s death, his mother is seeking answers following an autopsy revealing he drowned without foul play suspected. The toxicology report indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.82, ten times the legal limit for minors in Alabama. His mother expresses disbelief at how he could have been so intoxicated and questions where the alcohol came from. Avery was a well-respected high school football player and student, and his family believes that those who attended a party before his death could have intervened. Investigators are preparing their findings for a grand jury to determine if charges should be filed.
A forensic report showed that 17-year-old Avery Pickle’s blood alcohol level was ten times the legal limit for someone his age when his body was found in the waters of Palmetto Creek in July.

Hoover residents fight EBSCO apartment project rezoning near Highway 280
SUMMARY: EBSCO plans to develop a vacant lot northeast of Publix, near Highways 119 and 280, into a complex featuring over 1,200 residential units, a hotel, and various shops. However, more than 1,200 local residents, led by Ashleigh Lavelle, have signed a petition opposing the project, fearing it will diminish their quality of life. The land is currently zoned for commercial use, a status intended to benefit the community, but EBSCO seeks to change it to residential. Community members express concerns about increased traffic and density. The zoning commission is set to vote on the plan, with potential council review afterwards.
