Tupelo man charged with arson after furniture store fire
SUMMARY: Michael Long of Tupelo faces legal trouble after allegedly attempting to damage Independent Furniture. More evidence entered at trial from night Lamar County deputy was shot
SUMMARY: The trial of Troy Johnson, accused of shooting Lamar County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Pazos in December 2022, continued with its second day of testimony. Body cam footage from the incident was shown but not recorded in court. Several witnesses, including an NBI investigator, provided evidence regarding the shooting and the events of that night. Deputy Pazos was shot once in the side but survived. The prosecution has presented its witnesses, and the trial is set to resume tomorrow morning at the Lamar County Courthouse, with uncertainty about whether the defense will present its case.

8 inducted into Hattiesburg Hall of Fame
SUMMARY: Eight new inductees were honored at the Hattiesburg Hall of Fame, the sixth class of distinguished alumni from Hattiesburg area schools. The 2024 inductees include CEO Jeff Bowman, banking executive Jerome Brown, healthcare executive Martha Deerman, sales manager Russ Hendley, educator Stephanie H., state representative Missy McGee, pastor Dr. Regginald Ward, and pathologist Kimberly Wright. The event, held at the Eureka School in downtown Hattiesburg, featured press conferences and a welcome brunch. The inductees expressed their gratitude and hope to inspire the next generation of Tigers as role models in their respective fields.
