Lauderdale County 2024 Property Taxes increasing by 20%
SUMMARY: In November, Lauderdale County residents will receive tax bills reflecting a 20% increase for property taxes, marking the first increase in several years. This increase applies to all property owners, including those in Meridian, despite the city having lowered its property taxes. Due to a new assessment, property values across the county have risen by 20%. However, individuals over 65 years old are exempt from the increase unless there’s a change in the millage rate, following a law enacted two years ago. Tax assessments are required every four years, which necessitated this adjustment.

LIVE:Hattiesburg Regional Airport Dedication
SUMMARY: Today, we gathered at Bobby Chain Municipal Airport to honor Jesse L. Brown, a pioneering aviator from Hattiesburg, by dedicating an aeronautic facility in his name, one day after what would have been his 99th birthday. Key attendees included military representatives and David Forbe, who proposed this tribute. Reverend Arthur Sigers led the invocation, followed by remarks from family members and officials, emphasizing Brown’s vision and perseverance. Despite past underestimations, Brown made history as the Navy’s first African-American pilot. This dedication aims to inspire future generations and recognize the airport’s role in regional growth and development.
