Elliott Investment calls for special meeting for Southwest Airlines
SUMMARY: Elliott Investment Management is calling a special shareholder meeting for December 10 to propose replacing at least eight members of Southwest Airlines’ board of directors. This follows the hedge fund acquiring an 11% stake in the airline, which allows it to request the meeting. Recent changes by Southwest included board member resignations and a new plane design slated for 2026. Economists suggest that while changes are necessary, the effectiveness of Elliott’s proposals and the airline’s future direction will unfold during and after the meeting. Stakeholders should pay attention, as the outcomes could significantly impact employees and passengers alike.

Nearly 30 vehicles found charred following west Houston parking lot fire
SUMMARY: A destructive fire at the Creo on Yorktown Apartments in Houston burned about 30 vehicles in the parking garage, reportedly caused by an electrical short. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The main concern now is who will cover the damages: the apartment complex or the car owners. The complex management declined to take responsibility, stating residents should deal with their insurance, leaving some, like Yousef Alti, without options as he had just bought his car three days prior and had no insurance. Experts suggest car owners may bear the financial burden despite the fire’s proximity to a gas main that could have intensified the disaster.
Authorities are looking into what caused a serious blaze in a west Houston parking lot where up to 30 vehicles were destroyed.

However, progress is evident, with utility crews aiming to restore power by Tuesday and fuel shortages easing, as less than 20% of gas stations remain without fuel. Governor Ron DeSantis has announced ongoing free fuel distribution and the mobilization of nearly 3,000 workers for debris removal, which could take up to a year. President Biden pledged federal reimbursement for debris removal costs.
